PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Supervised Apartment for Independent Living (SAIL) Program and the Community Based Living Program at Elks Aidmore Children's Center are programs which provide young women a chance to experience independence while offering the support needed to help them succeed.

SAIL PROGRAM

The SAIL apartment is located on the campus of Elks Aidmore Children's Center. It is a furnished apartment which can accommodate three youth.Youth must sign a lease agreement and abide by the guidelines set in the lease.A support team is provided to each youth to provide assistance in making the transition from supervised group living to supervised apartment living. The support team will be selected by consensus of the staff and resident.

CRITERIA FOR SAIL PROGRAM

* Females only, ages 17 - 21
* Enrolled in high school, GED, vocational training, or college/university classes at least part-time
* Must demonstrate mastery on core life skills,demonstrated by pre-and post-testing of the Daniel Memorial Institute Curriculum and staff observation
* Demonstrate the ability to maintain employment
* Obtain a recommendation from their caseworker and support team
* Have a willingness to sign themselves back into the care of state

COMMUNITY-BASED INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM

The Community Based Independent Living Program furnishes the youth with an apartment, basic phone service and a food stipend. The apartment is located in the area where the youth attends school and works.Youth must sign a lease agreement and abide by the guidelines set in the lease. Initially the Aftercare Coordinator provides support and supervision at least twice weekly helping the resident to feel safe and comfortable in their new environment.

CRITERIA FOR COMMUNITY-BASED INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM

* Females only, ages 18 - 21
* Enrolled in high school, GED, vocational training, or college/university classes on a full time basis.
* Must demonstrate mastery on core life skills, demonstrated by pre-and post-testing of the Daniel Memorial Institute Curriculum and staff observation

* Must be employed at least part time.
* Obtain a recommendation from their caseworker and support team
* Have a willingness to sign themselves back into the care of state
